Volunteer

As a volunteer, you help bring our mission to life.

You can join us in the fight against hunger by becoming a volunteer with the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama.

Whether you are an individual, a group, or looking to complete community service hours, we have opportunities for you that will help change the lives of people facing food insecurity in our communities.

Did you know? Your employer might have a program to award cash donations to our organization because you volunteered! Use the search tool to see if your employer has one of these volunteer grant programs.

We can’t wait to see the impact you make! See our opportunities below!

Volunteer in our Warehouse

See how food goes from donation to delivery by helping us sort and inspect donated food items, prepare the sorted product for our partner agencies, and assemble food boxes for our Mobile Pantry & Family Market programs!

This is one of the crucial parts of our volunteer program, and we always need more help!

Volunteer at a Mobile Pantry

If you’re interested in volunteering face-to-face with your community, consider joining our team of volunteers who assist with our monthly mobile pantry distributions at sites all across our 12-county area.

This is an especially good opportunity for those who live outside of Birmingham, as we have regular distributions in Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Walker, and Winston Counties.

If you have any questions, email the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@feedingal.org! Sometimes these opportunities are not posted.

Host a Food or Fund Drive!

You (or your organization!) can host a Peer-to-Peer Fund Drive to help raise donations for the Community Food Bank. Donations allow us to put your dollars toward the greatest area of need. Because $1 can provide 4 meals, you can make a huge difference with anything you raise.

Food Drives are always a great way to help support our mission, and a great way to get your school, church, or business involved in helping fight hunger. We've created a Registration Toolkit to help make your food drive the best it can be, so be sure to read up for some tips and tricks.

Court-Ordered Community Service

Do you need to complete hours for court-mandated community service? As long as the crime was not for theft, violence, a sexual offense, or involving a minor, we are happy to let you complete those hours with us. Email our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@feedingal.org to get started. (Be sure to include in your email that you are seeking Community Service hours, how many hours you need, and the reason for service.)
